DON EDMUNDS "HISSO"
~ SOLD ~
DON EDMUNDS “HISSO” TETHER CAR
Number 7 in the series of approximately 10 handcrafted in aluminum by the late Don Edmunds (www.donedmunds.com) with a badge on the right cowl indicating “Don Edmunds AUTORESEARCH Hisso 7”. A Saito OHV engine powers the car, which is 18” long and has been described as “jewelry”. A rare opportunity to own an iconic Don Edmunds creation.
1948 McCoy Railton
"Alice the Goon"
~ SOLD ~
This original McCoy Railton designated "Alice the Goon" features the original fiberglass body, a custom front axle and fuel tank, magneto equipped McCoy .60 power, wiring, and fuel shut off. The rear wheels and tires are C-R (Curly), the fronts McCoy. This car is just as it left the track in 1950 or so. The drivetrain is not turning due, most likely, to very old fuel residue in the engine. The paint and decals appear original to the car. This car is 16" long and displays beautifully. Don't know who Alice is?? Google her.
1947 MARTIN FLASH RAIL TRACK MITE
~ SOLD ~
This as raced MARTIN FLASH has its original woven fiber cloth body and is powered by a McCoy .19. It was set up to run on the rail track at CALUMET PARK in CHICAGO. This rare rail mite car is 10" long and presents in as found, as raced condition !
1946 McCOY "TEARDROP" STREAMLINER
In 1946 Dick McCoy, working with Duro-Matic Corp, produced the first Duro-Matic McCoy tether car called the "McCoy Racing Car". These cars, soon to be known as the McCoy Teardrop, were very successful, setting spur gear records across the country. This example is something of a time capsule; it is exactly as it was the last time it ran; even the old batteries are in place. The car is complete, powered by an ignition McCoy .60 engine. The racer's box is included with the car. There are a lot on fancy restored teardrop cars around, but not very many in this completely original condition!
DOOLING .61 POWERED CUSTOM PROTO "AS RACED"
This early post-war proto class tether car is a custom build using a modified Dooling .61 for power. The body is hand carved wood; the pan is custom, as is the gearbox, fuel tank, and front axle. There is no driveshaft, the pinion gear is attached directly to the flywheel; the gearbox/driveline turns through smoothly, the Dooling .61 motor has excellent compression. The head and cylinder fins have been machined to accommodate the very narrow body. This 17" long custom proto is a remarkable build, presented in as run condition.
RICH DEMOCH'S 1998 AMRCA RECORD CAR; AS RACED !
Built on a McCoy Invader pan and gearbox, this car set the AMRCA Class 4 World record at 160 mph. It is powered by a custom SuperTigre G60 engine and is complete. The rules were changed shortly after this record was set.....so it may still stand! Included with the car are the ribbons and AMRCA results from the June 1998 meet. Here is your opportunity to own a piece of tether car racing history built and raced by the late legend Rich Democh!
PRE-WAR CUSTOM-BUILT CABIN CAR
~ SOLD ~
This unique tether car features a hand carved body on a pan which closely resembles that of an Airflow Defender. There are no markings nor a serial number cast into the pan, but the resemblance is, in my opinion, too close to be ignored. The car is 17" long with a 12 3/8" wheelbase; powered by a Super Cyclone ignition engine; the electrics are in place (even the battery pack!) as is the fuel tank. The gearbox/driveline turns through smoothly, the Super Cyke has good compression. The wheels and tires are Seiberling Speed-Chief. The shortage of aluminum at this time in history could account for the hand carved wooden body. The car, believed to be one of one, has great patina and outstanding shelf presence!
1948 M & E WASP
~ SOLD ~
The M & E Model Company was located in Exmouth Devon, UK, initially producing high quality model trains and boats. In 1947 a line of tethered cars was developed and, in 1948, the Wasp was introduced. The Wasp was designed as a Class C racer, for smaller engines, usually 2.5cc diesels mounted on a wooden block; the car is 15" long. The left front wheel is driven, and the body resembles a Bugatti grand prix racer. This example has larger 1066 wheels and tires and a hand formed nose. This is an outstanding example of a classic Class C British tethered racer.
JAPANESE MIDGETEE MITE RACER; NEVER RUN; COMPLETE, WITH BOX !
This original MIDGETEE MITE RACER is in NEVER RUN ORIGINAL CONDITION. The car is 10" long and powered by a Fuji .29 engine. The car presents as new! Included are the original box in excellent condition, the instruction sheet in both Japanese and English, which includes a schematic drawing, parts list, and sections on "How to start engine" and "How to run the car"; a spare drive tire, tether bracket, and even the original waxed paper in which the car was originally wrapped!
If you are looking for original; this is it!!
GEORGE FERNELIUS BRIGGS MITE
AS RACED; DOOLING .29 POWER
This is a car built and raced by George Fernelius. It is Dooling .29 powered featuring an early Briggs magnesium pan and a hand carved wooden body. It is believed to be his first car, with which he placed FIRST in the .29 bevel gear class at the May 16, 1954 NMRCA event at Muncie Indiana. The car is 12" long; the drivetrain turns through smoothly; the Dooling .29 has great compression.
