1947 SPEEDWAY PACEMAKER
Designed by record setting racer Joe Olender, the SPEEDWAY PACEMAKER was produced by Standard
Machine Works of Indianapolis Indiana beginning in 1947. Joe, hot off of his record setting run of 103.09 mph in 1945, incorporated many of the successful components and design of his early prototype car into the production of the Speedway Pacemaker. This restored example is powered by an ignition Hornet (serial # V10110) motor and is complete with coil, condenser, fuel tank, switch, battery box and wiring. The grill is custom made. The original Bakelite body has no damage, the paint is brilliant, the graphics are hand lettered except for the Speedway Pacemaker decal on the right side of the body. The magnesium wheels are original, the tires are replacements. This is an exceptional example of an iconic post-war proto.
1947 McCOY RAILTON
~ SOLD ~
The McCoy Railton was introduced in 1947 and was available in two versions, a complete kit containing fiberglass body and aluminum pan and a less expensive pan only version. This fiberglass bodied car is complete just as it left the track. It is powered by an ignition Dooling .61 which turns through smoothly with outstanding compression. The car is complete with coil, condenser, wiring, a custom fuel tank, and a custom built combination shut off switch and guillotine fuel shut off. The original paint shows age patina and some chipping from the occasional on track skirmish; the body and pan have no cracks or damage. I believe that the number 1078 on the right side of the body is the racer's membership number. The front McCoy Duro-Matic wheels and tires are in excellent condition; the rear tires and wheels are CR (Curly). The rear tires have some flat spotting. This car has been well cared for and displays beautifully; it is virtually untouched since it last ran. This is a real-deal as raced proto, with top shelf equipment including the powerful Dooling .61.
1946 MELCRAFT....AS RACED!
As stated in the Bob Ames book VINTAGE MINIATURE RACING CARS; "The seldom-seen Melcraft was manufactured in small numbers in Saginaw Michigan probably during 1946". This example features the factory produced wood body which is in remarkable condition. The unique feature of this car is the fact that it is powered by a Brown Jr converted to glow operation; yes, that is a glow plug atop the cylinder head. While the Melcraft cars are rare and difficult to find, it is even more difficult to locate one that has actually been raced!
The spur gear drivetrain turns through smoothly, the Brown has excellent compression. The car is complete with a fuel tank and a battery terminal connection on the dash to heat the glow plug without removing the body. This is a well built, as raced Melcraft......a rare find indeed!
"REAL McCOY" SIGNED BY DICK McCOY
This "REAL McCOY" mite was owned and signed by Dick McCoy and was presented by Dick to his good friend Jim Reynolds before he passed in 2005. The car is beautifully refinished with hand painted graphics displaying Dick's traditional #34. I had the privilege of obtaining many Dick McCoy pieces from the estate of Mr. Reynolds and will be offering several for purchase. This is an opportunity to own a true piece of Dick McCoy history.
1946 DOOLING F
You are looking at a 1946 DOOLING F TETHER CAR; in GREAT ORIGINAL CONDITION. The car is 16" long and features a two piece magnesium body, two piece knee action front axle, a rear gearbox containing bevel gears, original flywheel, connector and "dog bone" driveshaft. The body and pan are finished in the original hammer tone paint finish which was used on the early production cars. The grille is original as are the wheels and tires. This F car is powered by a McCoy .60 black case ignition engine; the driveline turns through smoothly; the engine has excellent compression. The spark plug, needle valve, and tether cable brackets are in place. The car is missing a fuel tank and the electric components; most often these pieces were used by the racer on his next car. This is a beautiful original Dooling F in hammer tone finish; it displays beautifully.
1946 McCOY "METAL TOP" INVADER
~ SOLD ~
The second car to come from the McCoy/Dura-Matic marriage was the Invader Proto in 1946. The earliest Invaders were cast in magnesium, hence the "Metal Top" label to distinguish these early cars from the later fiberglass bodied cars. This example is in pristine, original condition with ignition black case red head McCoy .60 power driving the rear wheels through the bevel gear gearbox. The engine has excellent compression and the driveline turns through smoothly. The car is complete with all electric components; coil, condenser, battery pack (with batteries!), shut off switch, and wiring. Also present are the original wheels and tires, tail skid, fuel tank, air intake tube, and the rarely seen shield which directs cooling air from the grille opening to the engine head. In addition the optional exhaust bezel and rear bumper are in place. The body wears its original red paint with hand painted graphics and the original McCoy Powered decal; the pan has been repainted in original black. There are a few chips in the original red paint; there are no cracks or damage to the body or pan. This is an exceptional complete, original 1946 McCoy "Metal Top" Invader; a time capsule indeed!
